5 ELA, one of the city’s original Hip Hop crews to rock the storied stages of Detroit, have been announced as contributors to the upcoming album from J Dilla, Rebirth Of Detroit, with their song titled “Center Of The Movement”. Their history with the producer who changed Hip Hop music was a vital period of time for 5 ELA and J Dilla, with everyone exploring new bounds of music and possibilities within the world.

The group was originally called 5 Elementz, Mudd and Thyme joined with Proof, who is perhaps Detroit Hip Hop’s most influential emcee of all time as the leader of D12 and as artist development for Eminem. J Dilla was the group’s original producer, creating all of the beats for the group’s debut EP Yesteryears, a release that inspired an era of independent releases in the city including Slum Village’s Fantastic Volume 1. Now accompanied by DJ Sicari, 5 ELA continues to record, create music videos and perform shows for a growing worldwide audience.

With the release of Rebirth Of Detroit on June 12, 2012, many artists in the city are taking the opportunity to show their appreciation for J Dilla’s music, as well as tell their stories of Hip Hop in the Motor City from its origins and peak of the 1990s through today. Most exciting for everyone involved are the opportunities to give the world new music.

5 ELA have three EPs available for free download at their bandcamp site, http://5ela.bandcamp.com.

They are preparing to release their new album, Global Warming, this year through 5 ELAtainment/Canorous/Universal Music Group. The album will feature guest appearances from Duminie DePorres, Cold Men Young, 87, Loe Louis, RenCen Coolbeanz, Omari King Wise, Finale, Journalist 103, Venus Sky and more.

This video of Thyme and Mudd from 5 ELA telling a story about J Dilla was recorded at the studio of DJ Uncle Paulie of Yancey Media Group, during production for the December 2011 release of the Dilla Ship Podcast presented by Mystery Channel.
